BALTIMORE - (MINS) Baltimore Police responded Friday night, to the 3400 block of W. Caton Ave., in the St. Joseph Community of West Baltimore, for reports of a man shot in the chest. According to the departments Twitter account, the man died a short while later at an area hospital.

Although not confirmed by officials, the victim is said to be Keith Glascoe, 50.

A person familiar with Glascoe described the incident as a family dispute gone bad. The individual said Glascoe was well known in the area, often performing errands and odd jobs for elderly neighbors. From taking out the trash, and other housework, to making runs to the store, Glascoe was described as someone whose presence will be greatly missed by not just immediate family, but the greater community, as he was relied upon by many.

While on scene The Baltimore Spectator observed investigators going in and out of a single family home on the corner, as officers stood guard immediately outside. Eventually investigators left the house with evidence, including a long object wrapped in brown paper.

As sounds of sorrow from a woman crying inconsolably could be heard coming from inside the house, a small group of possible family and or friends stood outside on the sidewalk while a detective spoke to them taking notes.

The victim appears to have been shot inside the residence. Neighbors said they didn't hear gunshots. At the scene, sounds of a continuous barrage of individual pre-Independence Day fireworks filled the air. It is conceivable that the sound of a gunshot could have easily been missed in between firecracker blasts.

A week prior, on 27 June, there was another homicide only a block away. Like this incident, a man was shot in the chest on the 3300 block of W. Caton Ave. .

Police have not named the suspect nor given a motive and state the homicide is still considered an ongoing investigation.

The incident was the second fatal shooting in two days, including the gunning down Thursday, of Nate Wheeler Jr., while he worked at a West Baltimore construction site on N. Fulton Ave. near Druid Hill Park.

Both incidents are notable for persons of interest being taken into custody almost immediately. A highly unusual occurrence in a city where more than half of all murders are never solved.

At both crime scenes, police did not send a spokesperson out to provide details to media reporting from the scene. Also as of Saturday morning, identification of the deceased and suspects involved still haven't been officially released.

Ozzie: Ray Rice Situation To Change Ravens Hiring Practices #StateOfTheRavens

Team Owner Says 2014 Was His Worse Year Ever

OWINGS MILLS, MD. -- At the annual State of The Ravens press conference, team officials were very candid. In speaking  about the lasting effects of the domestic abuse charges against star running back Ray Rice, they mentioned changes in how new players would be seleceted.

According to general manager Ozzie Newsome, evaluation of  prospective players will be critical if they have a history of domestic violence. "Someone who has domestic abuse in their background, it's going to be tough for them to be considered a Raven," Newsome said Tuesday in the annual State of the Ravens news conference.

"We were treating domestic violence the same we did a bar fight, and that was a mistake," team president Dick Cass said. "That was wrong. I think the league has recognized that. We certainly recognized that. That's an offense that will be treated very differently going forward."

The yearlong Ray Rice scandal and multiple arrests within the Baltimore Ravens organization weighed on owner Steve Bisciotti more than any other season.

It was so tumultuous that Bisciotti joked about being on "suicide watch."

"It was my worst year as an owner," Bisciotti said Tuesday at the annual State of the Ravens news conference. "I had 14 good years, and then I had an absolute crappy year."

Last year, Rice's domestic violence incident dominated national news. Team officials supported Rice for months last offseason before abruptly cutting the running back in September after a video of him hitting his future wife was released publicly.

A man was fatally wounded after being shot in the chest by a Baltimore Police officer Saturday night.

The incident took place when a resident flagged down a passing officer on the 1900 block of McHenry Street in south Baltimore around 8:30 p.m.

According to police, the citizen told the officer a family member was inside a residence threatening to harm other family members. Family was gathered together for a 3-year-old's birthday party when the incident took place.

Baltimore Police Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez stated the young veteran officer -- with less than two years on the force -- entered the residence and found the man with a knife in his hand.

After failing to comply with orders to drop the knife, the officer fired a single shot into the man's upper chest. Police say immediate aid was rendered, however the man died as a result of the gunshot wound a short time later at an area hospital.

According to Rodriguez, a full investigation is underway, but preliminary investigations did not indicate alcohol or drugs as a factor. No mention was made of the knife wielding individuals mental state, or what precipitated the incident.

No family members, nor the responding officer was injured during the incident.

Officer Involved In Thursday Shooting Identified

On Thursday night, Baltimore Police officer Angel Richardson, 32, a former city firefighter-paramedic, with just about two years on the police force, shot a man after a struggle related to a traffic stop.

Initially attempting to stop the driver of a minivan on Reisterstown Rd in Northwest Baltimore, the man fled from police.

After crashing the minivan, the driver and another occupant bailed out and a foot chase ensued. The other occupant -- a juvenile -- was arrested without incident.

At some point police say the driver "turned on the officer" and got into a physical confrontation with the Richardson. Feeling "overpowered" Richardson feared for her life, and police say as a last resort, opened fire on the individual.

The man shot was transported to an area hospital. At the time of this writing he was said to be recovering from his injuries. Baltimore police have not yet released any information on any criminal charges.

Thursday's shooting prompted The Baltimore Spectator to publish an editorial analysis asking the question of whether Baltimore Police were "Trigger Happy," resorting to lethal force before other means were first attempted. Two days later, police would shoot another man.

To date the editorial has been one of the most widely read stories at The Baltimore Spectator, garnering nearly 10,000 views in less than 24 hours and prompting hundreds of shares on social media, and a steady stream of comments showcasing varying opinions from readers.

Domestic Dispute Leaves Man Dead

UPDATE: While this story was being completed, the female subject involved telephoned the Baltimore Spectator and in an exclusive interview shared many details.

A.F. James MacArthur shared new details of this story in a live podcast Click here to be taken to the podcast page.

A man was fatally stabbed in a domestic dispute that took place on the 700 block of N. Rose St. Saturday morning. The incident first reported on Twitter by the Baltimore Spectator at 9:05 a.m. just moments after it happened. It would be many hours later before the incident received any mention by other media.

It was also not reported by Baltimore Police on twitter, despite their pledge to report all significant crime incidents via the social media outlet.

Through sources close to the situation, the Baltimore Spectator has learned exclusive details not revealed elsewhere.

The deceased man, 40 year old Shawn Brown, attacked and assaulted a 25 year old woman who resides nearby. In what is being called an attempted abduction, witnesses say the man tried to force the woman into a car when a struggle ensued. At some point, the man is said to have struck the female several times in the face with a brick. The female defended herself, by producing a knife and stabbing her attacker repeatedly.

Brown was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time afterward.

The Baltimore Spectator has learned the name of the woman alleged to have done the stabbing, but is withholding publication due to the possibility of her being a victim of domestic violence.

Police initially detained the woman, but as of this writing, sources say she was released without being charged, with the incident possibly being treated as a justifiable homicide related to self defense.

Brown and the woman were involved in a relationship in the past, and have a 5 year old daughter together. It is not clear whether they were still actively engaged in a relationship at the time of the incident. The case bares a strong resemblance to another recent domestic incident in which a 4 year old boy and his mother was shot by the boys father.

Friday night, Brown  forced his way into the woman's house at gunpoint in an incident that apparently did not result in physical injury. It was not clear if charges were filed or an arrest was made at the time.

Balloons on a pole memorialize a previous slaying at the same location of the stabbing.

N. Rose St. and the surrounding neighborhood is no stranger to homicide and violence. Residents weary of an area long besieged by drugs and gang activity could readily recall a long list of incidents that haven taken place.

The Baltimore Spectator has reported on multiple homicides in the immediate vicinity in the past, including a man shot while riding a bicycle, in what was considered to be a gang related incident, in the 700 block of N. Rose St.

Details of this breaking news story will be updated as new information becomes available and is subject to change.

Violence Worse Than The Wire

On Wednesday while speaking to a community group, newly confirmed Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts stated he did not like the HBO television series "The Wire." Since then, over a dozen people have been shot or stabbed in Baltimore, including two teenagers and a woman shot in a quadruple drive-by shooting last night, and an active duty U.S. Navy serviceman murdered while visiting family in Baltimore.

Alonzo Gladden, age 24, a member of the United States Navy, was shot and killed in front of his grandmother's house a little over an hour after Batts made the statement expressing disdain for the television show.

Early Saturday, an 18-year-old man was walking on the 300 block of Edmondson Avenue at 12:48 a.m., when police say he was approached by an unknown gunman who shot him in the shoulder before fleeing the are on foot.

Story & photo by A.F. James MacArthur

A four year old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and is being treated at a local hospital. The boy's mother was also shot during the same incident which took place about 9:45 p.m.
900 block of Gorsuch Ave., scene of  Wednesday night double shooting
Police say the double shooting on the 900 block of Gorsuch Ave., in the Better Waverly neighborhood of north Baltimore, appears to be domestic related, with the victims knowing their shooter. A person of interest is being sought.

While on scene, a young boy about seven years old was seen by this writer being escorted by police to a waiting police car. The boy who appeared to be a witness was heard saying "he got shot right here" while gesturing.

A Baltimore Police statement on twitter stated both victims are expected to survive.

The incident was a few blocks away from a homicide discovered early Wednesday morning in the 3600 block of Old York Rd. At that incident, a man appeared to have been shot several times during the night and managed to make it inside his house before succumbing to his wounds and being discovered by members of his family the next morning.
