Baltimore Examiner publishes final issue
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Examiner has published its last issue.
The free tabloid that launched less than three years ago as the city's second daily newspaper printed its last issue on Sunday.
Clarity Media Group, the paper's Denver-based parent company, blamed slower-than-expected ad sales when it announced the closure last month. Clarity said about 90 people would lose their jobs.
The front page of the last issue features a photograph of Baltimore's Inner Harbor with the Examiner building in the background with the headlines: "Goodbye Baltimore," and "Thanks for reading."
Publisher Mike Beatty thanked readers, saying they took pride in writing for them six days a week. He also thanked advertisers for their business and staff for their hard work.
It's truly a sad day for the city of Baltimore. On a day so many of us wished would never come, here we stand, now, in a one newspaper town.
The Baltimore Spectator will have more on this and the resulting impact including community response in the coming days. Please share your thoughts with us by emailing; BaltimoreSpectator@gmail.com
