Electricity Re-regulation -- Will O'Malley Keep His Promises?

In a new series, The Baltimore Spectator will take a close look at energy re-regulation and BGE/Constellation energy. Keep checking back because this one's sure to be hot and controversial.

After 10 years and an 85% increase in utility rates, the move towards re-regulation of the out of control BGE Maryland energy provider seems to be gaining steam. Governor O'Malley seems to actually remember one of his major campaign promises that had been largely ignored by him up until this point.

It should also be pointed out that O'Malley now pushing for re-regulation has only come about after a group of legislators including Baltimore's own Delegate Pat McDonough and Delegate Jill P. Carter have sponsored legislation do just that. Showing lack of leadership, it appears Governor O'Malley may actually be attempting to follow the will of the people, but of course, not before taking full credit and getting all the press for something others have been working on for weeks now.

A growing number of citizens, make that voters, have signed up and joined an online FaceBook group supporting energy re-regulation in Maryland. Besides regular taxpayers, the group even includes a judge and a General Assembly Member.

Although this is an editorial piece, in fairness to Governor O'Malley, I'd like to let him, in his own words, tell you what his plans are. See for your self why I say he's a fraudulent sham, a few years late, and billions of rate payer dollars short. Watch the video below from his campaign.
