Even for a place grown accustomed to a daily onslaught of violence and mayhem, the incident that took place late Tuesday night in the Poppleton Community of West Baltimore was one of unspeakable horror.

On the 900 block of W. Fayette St., just a short distance away from the University of Maryland Baltimore campus (UMB), area residents said the night had been quiet until shooting shattered the silence.

The Baltimore Sun reports, University of Maryland Police say two vans pulled up to the blocked just before 11 p.m., when two gunmen got out and began to unleash a hail of gunfire on the block.

Two men and two women were cut down by the barrage of bullets.

An hour after the incident, with over 100 people looking on, a lifeless body laying in a pool of blood was still on the sidewalk. Police held up a white sheet attempting to obscure the view of the corpse, but they were unable to block every angle.

While investigators processed the scene, several dozen spent shell casings littered the area, Evidence markers labeled as high as the number were 40 visible on the ground.

Onlookers seemed to be in a state of shock. Many with stunned, blank expressions on their face, as if still processing the horror that had taken place.

Crying and expressions of sorrow could be heard from all around as folk in the crowd reacted to the killings. Others exchanged hugs and hand holding. Some seemed upset as words and body language expressing anger was used.

One woman who declined to identify herself, told The Baltimore Spectator one of the victims was her
son's father.

A white van from the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner, with a gurney sitting beside it, stood by awaiting the okay from homicide investigators to remove the victim from the scene.

Police initially stated one of the victims had died at the scene, with the remaining three being transported to Maryland Shock Trauma center, just a few short blocks away. Before the investigation was concluded, the death toll had increased to three, with two of the victims being pronounced dead at the hospital. The fourth victim is said to be in stable condition.

The identity of the victims hasn't been released, but police say the deceased individuals are comprised of two men and a woman.
Police investigate quadruple shooting scene in W. Baltimore

While a motive for the shooting has not been disclosed, The Baltimore Sun reported that five days prior, on July 2, University police said shots were fired into a vehicle travelling on the same block of W. Fayette St. The passenger was injured from bullets that entered the vehicle. Raising the speculation of potential retaliation behind Tuesdays shooting.

An area resident wishing to remain anonymous, speaking about the neighborhood, told The Baltimore Spectator although things have been relatively quiet in the area leading up to the shooting, the calm was deceptive. He said there were numerous would-be gunmen laying in wait for their opportunity to deal death on the streets, as he hinted at further possible bloodshed.

After Confessing To Ditching Newborn, Mom ID'd As Robbery Accomplice

Could the stress of an upcoming trial for armed robbery have led a mother to ditch her newborn baby on the side of a dark road?

Sandra McClary, 26, of Baltimore probably won't be up for mom of the year award any time soon. After abandoning her six-month old daughter on the side of the road in the Pasadena area of Anne Arundel County, late at night on July 4th,  McClary contacted police nearly 11 hours later the next day.

Initially calling in with a confused and conflicting story, at one point McClary said the baby was supposed to be in the custody of the father. Eventually McClary was brought to the Eastern District Station of Anne Arundel Police, where she positively identified the baby. Investigators were able to positively confirm that indeed she was the mother.

It was determined that McClary removed her baby from a car, and placed her in her car seat on the side of the road. She's being charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment and is currently held on a $500,000 bond.

The child is in the care of Social Services.

Robbery While Pregnant?

No stranger to criminal activity, McClary was one half of a duo arrested and charged in a series of area hold ups.

On 8 September 2014, McClary along with Phillip Thomas McGowans, 26, were charged with multiple counts of armed robbery and related crimes for repeatedly hitting several liquor and convenience stores.

It is unclear if McGowans is the father of the baby.

No word on whether McClary has any other children.

A hearing date for the robberies has been postponed to September.

Baltimore Police announce several arrests in recent homicides

For a police department currently closing well below half of all murders taking place, rapid arrests of suspects is both noteworthy and rare.

While children played nearby, and normal life carried on in East Baltimore, police said a man was shot in the head Sunday afternoon on Kennedy Ave. near the intersection of E. 20th St.

He died a short time later in an area hospital. Police did not release the victim ID, nor a motive or information on a possible suspect.

When The Baltimore Spectator arrived on scene, a pool of blood on the sidewalk, and a baseball cap circled by evidence markers showed the spot where the victim was gunned down.

Surrounded by many falling apart, decrepit and abandoned houses, the neighborhood itself seemed like a place lacking life.

By Sunday evening tributes and remembrances had begun pouring onto social media for Edward Burroughs, who friends identified as the individual killed. They called him Eddie.

Police did not say whether a motive or suspects were known in this case and state the investigation is active and ongoing.

Second Fatal Shooting In Two Days, Second Killing, Same Street In Two Weeks

BALTIMORE - (MINS) Baltimore Police responded Friday night, to the 3400 block of W. Caton Ave., in the St. Joseph Community of West Baltimore, for reports of a man shot in the chest. According to the departments Twitter account, the man died a short while later at an area hospital.

Although not confirmed by officials, the victim is said to be Keith Glascoe, 50.

A person familiar with Glascoe described the incident as a family dispute gone bad. The individual said Glascoe was well known in the area, often performing errands and odd jobs for elderly neighbors. From taking out the trash, and other housework, to making runs to the store, Glascoe was described as someone whose presence will be greatly missed by not just immediate family, but the greater community, as he was relied upon by many.

While on scene The Baltimore Spectator observed investigators going in and out of a single family home on the corner, as officers stood guard immediately outside. Eventually investigators left the house with evidence, including a long object wrapped in brown paper.

As sounds of sorrow from a woman crying inconsolably could be heard coming from inside the house, a small group of possible family and or friends stood outside on the sidewalk while a detective spoke to them taking notes.

The victim appears to have been shot inside the residence. Neighbors said they didn't hear gunshots. At the scene, sounds of a continuous barrage of individual pre-Independence Day fireworks filled the air. It is conceivable that the sound of a gunshot could have easily been missed in between firecracker blasts.

A week prior, on 27 June, there was another homicide only a block away. Like this incident, a man was shot in the chest on the 3300 block of W. Caton Ave. .

Police have not named the suspect nor given a motive and state the homicide is still considered an ongoing investigation.

The incident was the second fatal shooting in two days, including the gunning down Thursday, of Nate Wheeler Jr., while he worked at a West Baltimore construction site on N. Fulton Ave. near Druid Hill Park.

Both incidents are notable for persons of interest being taken into custody almost immediately. A highly unusual occurrence in a city where more than half of all murders are never solved.

At both crime scenes, police did not send a spokesperson out to provide details to media reporting from the scene. Also as of Saturday morning, identification of the deceased and suspects involved still haven't been officially released.

Baltimore Police have charged Keyon Jackson, 22, in yesterday's murder of Nate Wheeler Jr.(pictured), 31., court records show.

Police still haven't been publicly ID'd Wheeler as the victim.

A witness told the Baltimore Spectator suspects were pursued from scene by officers who heard the shots. This led to big commotion in Hampden. Baltimore Police still haven't released any details yet.

In November Jackson pleaded guilty to intimidating witness/juror, and was sentenced to 15 years in jail, but 13 years, 6 months were suspended. He was already out on the streets.

BALTIMORE - (MINS) Baltimore Police responded to a call for a shooting Thursday afternoon, in the vicinity of the 2200 block of N. Fulton Ave. Responding officers found Nate "Man" Wheeler Jr., 31, shot multiple times. His birthday was the day before.

Witnesses tell The Baltimore Spectator, Wheeler had been working on a construction project in an area considered an extension of Druid Hill Park. While operating a Bobcat, a gunman approached and opened fire from extremely close range.

An area resident ran to the scene and observed Wheeler barely breathing and clinging to life. By the time authorities arrived, Wheeler was pronounced dead on the scene.

Another witness stated he saw Baltimore Police pursuing two individuals immediately after the shooting.

While police were on scene investigating, and with Wheeler's body still present, emotional family members began to arrive. One woman could be heard crying out loud, "why did they have to do this to my brother? He didn't deserve this."

Another lady, overcome with grief and emotion had to be treated and transported by a Baltimore Fire Dept. medic unit, after what appeared to be a panic or anxiety attack.

Before the scene was cleared, the crowd of onlookers -- with many seeming to be friends and family -- grew to nearly 100 people.

Friends who wished to remain anonymous describe Wheeler as a devoted father, and loving uncle, a source of strength and support for his entire extended family.
Wheeler grew up in East Baltimore and is said to have worked for Allied Construction for over 10 years, where he's said to have been a highly valued and committed employee.

A motive for the shooting has not been stated.

Medics were called to the scene to assist
with the traumatic impact of the violence on a loved one needing assistance.
Baltimore Police reported detaining two individuals, deemed "persons of interest," a short time after the shooting, but have not released their identity or clarified whether they've been charged.

The case is considered an active investigation. Homicide detectives ask anyone with information to call 410-396-2100.

In the last two years, eight people have been shot on the 2200 blk of N. Fulton Ave. Five -- including Wheeler -- have died.
