THE WIRE: Man Convicted For Smuggling Cocaine & Heroin

For those who continue to think The Wire is fiction (attention Mayor Dixon & Governor O'Malley)

Derrick "Prince" Gilliard was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison on Friday for conspiracy to import heroin and cocaine. In a plea deal, he admitted to bringing in over 150 kilos of coke and heroin, but was convicted of a much smaller amount. The government referred to Prince as a "seasoned drug smuggler and businessman."

He was known to recruit women couriers who he sent overseas with large sums of money, and they came back to Baltimore with kilos of drugs which was then redistributed. The women were paid between $8,000 and $12,000 per trip and imported over 600 kilos of cocaine and heroin into the United States.

So, if this was just one man. Imagine how many others out there haven't been caught yet?
