When Reality Isn't Real - Painful Truth About Race In America Pt. 1

"No notice is taken of a little evil, but when it increases it strikes the eye." ~ Aristotle
We've never had such a high volume of reporting on police brutality and misconduct in the mainstream media. Particularly the kind directed towards black people. Yes, it really does happen at a disproportionate rate. Yet many are still unwilling to acknowledge this. Truth hurts!

For decades incidents of crimes committed by cops and the ensuing cover ups that almost always comes with them, were largely relegated to the realm of urban legend and oral history in the black community. Everyone knew it happened on a frequent basis. If you were black and didn't find yourself on the receiving end, you probably were an eye witness. If not, you certainly knew others that were. America has a rich tradition of racist policing.

Many more faces could be added to this list.
For a black person in America, there's just simply no escape of this painful fact.

Most people are unaware the first forces resembling an organized police department were actually slave patrols. Their purpose was never public safety, but rather to keep the niggers [escaped slaves] in their place. Back on the plantation. Just like it is now with the projects and other "black neighborhoods" of today.

The very roots of this country was built on an inherently racist foundation. The so-called majority [white people] never had a problem with their ilk enslaving and brutalizing black people. They didn't then and they sure as hell don't now.

It is for this reason all of the racial disparities, so well studied and documented, persisted for so long in America'a so called judicial system. And to this day continues to happen at a disturbing rate, and doesn't seem like it's going to stop.

Despite increased awareness and the ability to instantaneously search and find tons of examples, despite all the social media sharing, a lot of folk would be surprised to learn a majority of white Americans still believe there isn't racism anymore. They think discrimination in law enforcement and the courts is made up, make believe complaint.  They say we're just whining.

Don't believe me? Take an informal poll of ALL of your white friends and family. Ask this simple question; do you believe black people are treated worse than white people by the police? If they're being honest, you'll see for yourself.

In my decades of keenly observing the American people, I've discovered for many, this country's racism is so prevalent, so deeply ingrained in the very fabric of our society, it seems normal. They've grown so used to it, they don't even realize it for what it is.

It's hard to say which is more troubling; the openly racist, backwards bigot, or the folk so conditioned they sincerely feel racism is no longer an issue.

Another category are those who find any discussion of race at all to be "racist." I find these most amusing.

Deep in their hearts, white Americans know black people have long been exploited, brutalized and abused. It's systemic. It's institutional. But thinking about this is very uncomfortable, much less having a frank, honest conversation about it.

It's for this reason, a person attempting to have an honest conversation on the subject is often met with harsh derision.

They come face to face with a reflexive, instinctive, knee jerk reaction of defensive deflection.

Our lack of the ability to keep it real with each other instead of insulting, invalidating or shutting each other down is at the heart of why we're not nearly as far as we should be by now.

Liberty and justice for all? Where? Here??? Sounds good. Maybe one day. I'm still waiting...

Ridiculous Rhetoric Ruining Critical Conversation - The Police Need To Quit It!

Law Enforcement Officials Lose Credibility And Destroy Opportunity To Build Bridges By Clinging To Illogical Fallacies

"Words are more treacherous and powerful than we think." ~ Sartre

When bad things happen, blame someone. Blame someone black. You might get better mileage. At least that's how it seems with police. Ask Susan Smith. And Anthony Fata too!

At the height of the civil rights movement, black Americans and many white allies had become sick and tired of the nonstop abuse. They decided they were going to stand up and not take it anymore. But save for word of mouth testimony, little evidence was available to highlight the extent of crimes committed under color of law.

That's changed. Gone are the days of police being able to abuse their power, exercise tyrannical rule over impoverished communities, kill at will, and not be held accountable and questioned whether their actions were justified.

Internet social media and cell phone cameras allow the world to see in living color, the kind of abuse that's been taking place and decried -- particularly in the black community -- yet ignored by a majority of Americans, for decades now.

But change is feared. Few institutions have shown as infantile, ludicrous and laughable a resistance to inevitable change as the law enforcement community.

NEWSFLASH: Beyonce Isn't Causing Cops To Get Killed
A Tennessee Sheriff heard gunfire outside his house Monday night. No one was injured, but the Sheriff took aim and fired back. He cited the Super Bowl 50 Halftime show, performed by Mrs. Jay-Z, as the cause of the attack on his residence. But how does he know this?

With no known suspects, Sheriff Robert Arnold of Rutherford, TN was certain he had a motive. Asked to elaborate he stated:
“With everything that’s happened since the Super Bowl, with law enforcement as a whole, I think we’ve lost five to seven officers, five deputy sheriffs since the Super Bowl, that’s what I’m thinking,” he told reporters Tuesday at a press conference. “You have BeyoncĂ©’s video and that’s kind of bled over into other things about law enforcement.”
The most asinine, most insane statements are being made by police "leadership" with a straight face. Somehow it seems these folks don't realize just how stupid and out of touch they sound.

The Tennessean reports the American Sheriff"s Association cites the recent killings of seven deputies nationwide, all being connected to Beyonce and her performance:

"The senseless killing of four law enforcement officers just this week — on the heels of the anti-police “entertainment” at the Sunday Super Bowl halftime show — reminds us that the men and women in law enforcement take a solemn oath that includes putting their lives on the line every day to protect our citizens."

Two of those deaths were Harford County Maryland Sheriff deputies Mark Logsdon and Patrick Dailey. Both killed by 68 year old David Evans, inside of a Panera Bread restaurant. Evans was white.

These men literally haven't even been buried yet, and already their dead bodies are being used by the propaganda pushers to further a political agenda. And this is being done with no shame either.

As a former radio DJ I can assure you, the demographics don't fit. Most 68 year old white men aren't readily influenced by black music performers.

Evans had a record that included assaulting police officers and multiple domestic violence crimes, with open warrants going back years. He was even a suspect in the non fatal shooting of his wife. Maybe we should talk more about that than a halftime show.

Or is the truth being avoided because so many in law enforcement are violent domestic abusers themselves? The profession is dominated by white males, many of them unhinged, and mentally unstable just like Evans.

But lets blame black people. That's so much easier than addressing the real issues and seeking a solution to improve the contentious relationship between the police and the black community. Beyond lip service, is there any true interest in repairing the damage?

That relationship has always been strained, why try to fix it now?
