FATAL STABBING, 3600 Benson Ave

Several hours after this incident was broken by WJZ, and at the time, incorrectly referred to as a Baltimore County incident, Baltimore Police tweeted the stabbing.

The police tweet had no dispatch time or time of incident included, we learned the stabbing was fatal. Typically when police tweet an incident, citizens relying on them for accurate information correctly assume the incident had just taken place.

Police Torture Admitted To, Chicago Mayor Apologizes

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel responded Wednesday to a two-decade saga of police torture in a way none of his predecessors had done before: He apologized.

A secret unit operating under the direction of former Chicago police commander Jon Burge carried out systematic torture of suspects in criminal cases, mainly African-Americans on Chicago's South Side, to produce false confessions between 1972 and 1991.

In total, the city of Chicago has spent about $85 million for settlements and legal fees related to police torture cases. Cook County has spent about $10.7 million.

With at least 100 cases pending, the city faces heavy demands for compensation to victims. Mayor Rahm Emanuel has set aside more than $27 million to settle lawsuits for 2013 alone.

Sunday afternoon Park Heights shooting likely homicide...

Although details are sparse right now, based off a Baltimore Police tweet put out at 4:14 p.m., it seems the city's pace of murder and mayhem continues to keep a brisk pace, showing little let up.

Referring to the incident, Carrie Wells said on her twitter account, "Source says man shot 'too many times to count' in the head at Woodland Ave and Delaware Ave..."

Who Or What Exactly Is The Baltimore Spectator?

Dr. James MacArthur, physical culturist,
social-pathologist/observational theorist.
Independent urban combat correspondent,
 journalist contributor, radio guy.
Because sometimes 140 characters just isn't enough

On 18 September 2013, Baltimore City Paper placed The Baltimore Spectator on  it's yearly "Best of Baltimore" list under Best Social Media Strategy. Whether this was a compliment or a crack at us, we may never truly know.

Specializing in crime, grime and politics, The Baltimore Spectator is an established leader in live, on-scene crime and emergency incident reporting in the city of Baltimore. Over the years, numerous incidents that would later become major news stories, were first learned about from our postings on Twitter.

A multi-faceted outlet, political and social commentary is another area you'll see spoken about frequently.

Crime Chasers

The summer of 2013 saw a new added dimension, to the unceasing efforts of delivering timely, accurate, first hand updates and accounts of incidents in the community.

Enter the #CrimeChasers.

Taking cues from the notorious "storm chasers," known for driving right into tornadoes and flying into the dangerous storms, full time defense industry reporter @MolotovFlicker, teamed up with the The Baltimore Spectator as a photojournalist, forming a unique strategic journalistic partnership.

Together, on a slightly modified, custom Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird motorcycle, the two have ridden right into the "eye of the storm" so to speak, breaking several major crime incidents in Baltimore.

Often arriving on scenes where no media is present, or long before others get there. If this isn't innovative, then it's hard to say what is.

Many serious crime incidents, have been made known to the people of Baltimore because of the work of the #CrimeChasers. Several stories initially not covered or ignored by mainstream media, would later become major stories, only after first being put out by this dynamic duo.

Some of the major crime incidents broken by the #CrimeChasers include (links to be added): a seven year old boy shot in a triple shooting, that took place in front of the President of The City Council's house, and when a 15 year old aspiring rapper was killed when seven people were shot in West Baltimore.

Keen Observers

On one double shooting scene, the #CrimeChasers even found a bullet on the ground that was passed over by numerous Baltimore Police investigators looking for clues. The find would later become a critical piece of evidence in the investigation.

This page is a dynamic document, and will be changed, edited and updated as I see fit.

The Man Behind The Madness

I should just place a cliche "under construction" graphic here. That would be true on so many levels. I'm not big on writing about myself, but I'll come back to this a little later and do some summaries of relevant information.

My life truly has been one big adventure. I've been many places, seen different faces, borne many burdens. Sometimes I'm still amazed at some of things I've done.

Two people were shot early Sunday morning. The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. in the the 200 block of Silver Court, in the East Baltimore's Douglass Homes housing project, directly on the other side of the building of Thursday's fatal police involved shooting.

Police learned of the incident after the two adult victims walked in to an emergency room, and staff notified law enforcement.

Not much is known about the incident at this time.

The incident was part of a night of violence including two separate stabbings where the victims walked into emergency rooms as well.

The Baltimore Sun summarizes the five shootings taking place between midnight and sunrise Sunday.

ANOTHER ONE! Baltimore Police shoot man, witnesses say he was unarmed

Picture of man killed by police. Internet commenters speculate a gun is shown in the center of photo. Others say, some other object is still in the hands of the deceased man.

The Baltimore Sun

Baltimore police shot and killed a man they say fought with police before producing a weapon in an East Baltimore housing project Wednesday night.

Police released few details Wednesday on how the incident began, but Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez said officers chased the man on foot into the 200 block of N. Spring Court, inside the Douglass Homes community, before 7 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital, and police could not immediately confirm his age or identity.

Rodriguez said officers from the department's special enforcement section were in the Douglass Homes area, working on "intelligence" they had gathered that led them to believe a suspect was about to commit a crime near or in a local business. Rodriguez declined to identify the business or describe how far away it was from where the chase ended.

Police pursued the man to the Douglass Homes courtyard, where he fought them as they tried to take him into custody, Rodriguez said. At some point, the man produced a weapon and, fearing for their lives, three officers shot him multiple times, Rodriguez said. No officers were injured, and Rodriguez said a weapon was recovered at the scene. Rodriguez would not say what kind of weapon was recovered.

Witnesses at the scene offered a different version of what happened once the man was inside the Douglass Homes courtyard, with the man holding a cellphone in his hand but not a gun, and the officers beating him while he lay on the ground before he was shot.

BEYOND BREAKING NEWS: Month After Murder, Mom Speaks About Son's Killing

In an exclusive interview, Judy Godsey, the mom of murdered young man, Jamal Godsey, speaks to The Baltimore Spectator about her son and continued crime and violence in the city.

Month later, murder of Jamal Godsey remains on list of hundreds of unsolved mysteries in Baltimore.

On the morning of Friday, 2 August, just before 4:00 a.m., residents of the 1600 block of Hartsdale Road in Northeast Baltimore, were awakened by the sound of a man screaming, followed immediately by gun shots.

Looking out their windows, they could not see the bleeding body of young man laying on the ground, in the dark of night, his life oozing away.

Police were called and arrived within minutes. They found Jamal Godsey, 21, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. By 4:09 p.m. after an ambulance had transported him to a hospital, he was pronounced dead moments after arrival.

Judy Godsey, Jamal's mother, who is a former 911 operator, told The Baltimore Spectator, no one really knows what her son was doing on the quiet residential block.

With well kept, neat looking houses on one side, and a dense urban forest on the other, the area did not have the look and feel of your typical killing field neighborhood in Baltimore city. They didn't live nearby, and to the best of his mom's knowledge, Godsey had no friends in the area either.
"Too many people dying too young for senseless reasons." Judy Godsey
Police report having no suspects in the killing and a motive is not known. Witnesses and clues to the murder are still being sought.

The incident took place along with three other separate shootings, all occurring within a few hours of each other. News accounts at the time did not identify Godsey, instead he was listed simply as another anonymous victim of violence, in a city where seeming random violence has become all too routine. Homicide victim number 137.

A Meeting To Remember

On Monday, exactly a month after Godsey was murdered, friends and family gathered on the site where it happened to remember him. They were also hoping to inspire or encourage any nearby residents with additional information, to come forward and share what they know with the police.

Lighting candles, and carrying poster collages with his picture, the group marched to the end of the block and back, chanting their desire to see a stop the violence and singing religious hymns.

For her part, Ms. Godsey says she has not had time to grieve just for herself. She mentioned how it seems as if every weekend the city sees more groups of young children being shot and or killed. The very next weekend after her son was killed, a seven year old boy was shot in east Baltimore, along with two others, as part of a triple shooting.

The weekend following the East Baltimore triple shooting -- which incidentally took place steps away from City Council President C. Bernard "Jack" Young's house -- 15 year old, Deshaun Jones was killed in West Baltimore, when someone opened fire on a group of people outside their homes, hitting seven of them.

City Of Suffering

While on scene at the vigil, The Baltimore Spectator received a tip of a stabbing that had just taken place in West Baltimore. The incident happened inside a home on the 1800 block of Druid Hill Ave. The victim and attacker may have ran into the street while there was a large block party taking place in the same vicinity.

Police say the man stabbed is expected to survive his injuries.

While on scene of the stabbing on Druid Hill Ave., The Baltimore Spectator again received a tip. This time for a serious assault, with a possible fatality, in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood a short distance away. Although information was sketchy and unconfirmable at the time, the incident was later verified.

Around 7:30 p.m., Baltimore Police responded to the 800 block of Lennox Street for a report of an aggravated assault. A 52 year old man suffering from serious injuries was found at the location. The man was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The fatal beating comes less than a day after a 27-year-old man was fatally shot in the 1100 block of Whitelock Street, less than half a mile away.

Baltimore Police were dispatched for a shooting, at 11:21 p.m. Sunday to the 1100 block of Whitelock Ave., in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood.

Boxer Tommy Morrison, Former Heavyweight Champion, Dead At 44

English: Tommy Morrison during the Chiller The...
CBS News

Tommy Morrison, a former heavyweight champion who gained fame for his role in the movie "Rocky V," has died. He was 44.

Morrison's former manager, Tony Holden says his longtime friend died Sunday night at a Nebraska hospital. The family would not disclose the cause of death. Morrison tested positive for HIV in February 1996.

Morrison was born in Arkansas and grew up in Oklahoma.

In 1993, Morrison beat George Foreman to win the World Boxing Organization heavyweight title. His last Nevada-sanctioned fight was in 1995, a loss to Lennox Lewis.

Morrison went on to fight again in Japan nine months later, earning a TKO that kept his career on track for what would have been a massive payday: a showdown against Mike Tyson.

However, just as his boxing career and general celebrity were cresting, Morrison tested positive for HIV in 1996 before a fight with Arthur Weathers, which he said afterwards effectively put the brakes on his rise. In the years that followed, he claimed the test was a false-positive, and even invited the New York Times to test him for HIV in 2007.

EXCLUSIVE: The Impact Of Murder -- Beyond Breaking News

By A.F. James MacArthur
Agitator-In-Chief

Murder has become so frequent, so commonplace in Baltimore. Sometimes when it happens, it hardly makes the news. Though I rarely record audio of local witnesses, I typically gain the greatest insight when there's no media around, or after they've all left.

Recorded the day before Thanksgiving, this is one of the most insightful, behind-the-scenes, candid conversations, you may ever hear regarding Baltimore homicide.

Two of the ladies are mothers of homicide victims. They had the misfortune of witnessing more murder, right in front their door. The conversation was took place live, on the scene of a homicide on the 2800 block of Boarman Ave., in Park Heights.

Particularly interesting is their expressed disdain for Baltimore mainstream news coverage of crime, and disappointment with the Baltimore Police Department.
