Boston Police officer and weekend warrior National Guardsman Justin Barrett apparently thought it was ok to refer to Dr. Henry Louis Gates and a "jungle monkey." The Beantown cop has been stripped of his badge and gun and is expected to be fired at any moment. The best part of this story is, now Barrett has issued an apology saying; "I am not a racist," but he has admitted to using the slur. Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino said, "he's gone, g-o-n-e. I don't care, it's like cancer, you don't keep those cancers around." “I just say that we want to rid our department of the cancer, and that is what we did—rid the department of cancer. All police officers I know don’t condone any of that. An individual preaching hate has no place in our society."
