Cabbie Killer Nabbed!


Robert Lee Murphy Arrested For Baltimore Cab Driver Murder

The Baltimore Police Department announced the arrest of Robert Lee Murphy in connection with the shocking murder of Frederick Maryland taxi driver Stephen Mauk. Murphy has been charged with first degree and second degree murder along numerous handgun violation.

Few details were released related to the arrest or the murder. At this point what is known is Mauk made a routine pickup in Frederick, and was not seen nor heard from again. Shortly after 4:00 AM on January 29th, his murdered body was found with the taxicab near a Baltimore housing project.

After the incident which caused great fear and concern among Baltimore cab drivers, many cabbies said they were having second thoughts remaining in one of "the most dangerous jobs in the world." Blaine Young, co-owner of City Cab Co. in Frederick told The Baltimore Spectator there were plans to crush and destroy the minivan taxi in which Mauk was killed. They also plan to permanently retire the unit number of the cab in his memory.

Currently Murphy is in custody at the Howard County Detention Center on unrelated charges. Frederick County also has a detainer on Murphy for a carjacking taking place just eight days prior to the cab driver killing on Bond St. on January 26.
