About 100 guests of a downtown hotel were unexpectedly awakened and had to stand out in the cold this morning. As strobes flashed in the hallways and alarms bells sounded, everyone had to clear out. The building located on the corner of President and Fleet streets, in the Harbor East area of downtown Baltimore. houses the Hilton Homewood Suites and the Hilton Garden Inn.
Shortly after 5:00 AM alarms sounded and hotel guests were forcibly evacuated. Although no one reported seeing or smelling any smoke, no chances were taken and the evacuation was performed as a precautionary measure. Units from the Baltimore Fire Department scoured the high rise
building looking for the source of the alarm. Also on scene was the Baltimore Police Department.In less than an hour, the all clear was given and guests were allowed to re-enter, however fire officials remained on scene and appeared to still inspect the building as the guests re-entered. The reason for the alarm was not yet discovered at the time this report was filed. An employee not authorized to speak with the media gave The Baltimore Spectator information used in this report.
